Cheshire is a ceremonial county, consisting of 4 unitary authorities, and is named after a medieval dukedom that existed in roughly the same area as modern day Cheshire. This Dukedom fought in the War of the Roses on the side of the Red Rose, against Yorkshire and the White Rose, and historically was a very strategically important location due to its border with whales. Cheshire often being a battleground for Welsh and English forces attempting to invade each other’s land through the north.
