Altrincham is a market town located 9 miles to the south of Greater Manchester. Originally built in the 18th century it has now become a popular commuter town fuelled by railway and Metro tram improvements in more recent time. As a result Altrincham has excellent transport links by rail from Altrincham station to the historic city of Chester, Metro tram link to all of Greater Manchester and by road with good access to the A56 and M6 motorway.

Altrincham is conveniently located close to Manchester Airport and within a short drive to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Altrincham has very recently experienced a revival of its market-town roots as the historic central market area has recently been renovated and is now home to a proliferation of bars and eateries.

The town’s population has grown to 52,000 from 39,000 in 10 years, as recorded in the 2011 and 2001 census’ – with a high degree of local employment and education. Residents of Altrincham are enjoying an excellent quality of life compared to national average. As a fairly large commuter/market town (which are typically small), covering an area of around 10,000 square miles, this makes the town the largest of the four major urban areas in Trafford.
