Sale is a large town located to the southwest of Manchester and historically has always been an important link within the Greater Manchester transport system. This popular market town has a metro-link located in the old train station which connects Sale to the rest of Greater Manchester. Sale is also a part of an extensive bus system that provides services across a large section of Greater Manchester. Sale can easily be accessed by road along the A56 and the M60 Manchester orbital motorway.

As reported in the 2011 Census, Sale has a population of around 134,000 which is very large by national average for a market town. Sale is also one of the few places in the UK that has an artificial lake. Located in Sale Water Park, it was created from an old excavation site which was under utilised, it’s now used locally as a wildlife preserve and location for a variety of water sports.

Sale also has 21 listed buildings in and around the centre of town. There is a bronze bust of James Joule, the man who create the joule as a measurement for energy. In the town centre a Venue called the Waterside Arts Centre houses the main library, plaza, gallery and a theatre within a pedestrian complex. The Centre also hosts concerts, exhibitions and other popular recreational activities. Sale Leisure Centre serves the local community with facilities to play Squash, badminton and many other sports related activities. The Trafford Rowing Club is also located in Sale by the canal near to Walton Park.
